MDM Motorsports has entered five ARCA Racing Series teams for the PapaNicholas Coffee 150 this Friday night, June 22 at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Illinois.
Series championship points leader Sheldon Creed, second place Zane Smith, and rookies Chase Purdy, Harrison Burton and Anthony Alfredo will all wheel Toyotas for the hottest team in the series this weekend.
Creed has entered once again in his United Rentals, A.M Ortega, RTL Toyota No. 28 led by crew chief Jeff Stankiewicz. The team has one win this season but has been the most consistent team in the series thus far and enjoys a 55-point advantage over his teammate Smith.
This will be the first time to Gateway for Creed, so he’s spending the week preparing for battle.
“My prep for this week has been watching some video and making some mental notes about the track and how I will need to approach it. I feel like I adapt to new places quickly, which always helps. I’m looking forward to getting down to business there on Friday.”
Smith has three wins so far this season. His La Paz Margarita Mix, Icon Vehicle Dynamics, Speed Vegas Motorsports Toyota No. 41 led by crew chief Mardy Lindley has been stout on shorter tracks, but this will also be the first visit for Zane. He is preparing much the same way as Creed is.
“Homework is definitely what is going to help me this weekend,” he confirmed. “I’ll be watching film and leaning on some guys that have been there before. I feel like I do better at tracks I’ve never been to before, so I’m pretty pumped up to go racing this weekend.”
Purdy put his Bama Buggies, Polaris Toyota No. 8 in the top five last weekend at Madison, and he’s intrigued by what could be possible in his first visit to Gateway.
“It looks like a really cool track from what I’ve seen,” Purdy stated. “I’m definitely looking forward to
going there. It’s a unique type of driver’s track for sure. Our team has been fast all season and with last week’s top five I feel like we’re ready to start challenging for wins.”
Burton rejoins the team to drive the Dex Imaging, Safelite, Mobile 1 No. 12 Toyota. He won at Pocono in his first Superspeedway start the last time he raced the car, so he’s fired up to get back in the driver’s seat this weekend.
“I'm definitely looking forward to this one Gateway is one of the best tracks on my schedule. The last time I was in the series we won, so I'm excited to go for back to back wins and I know my guys are too. I always enjoy racing for this team and this weekend will no different.”
Alfredo slides over from the NASCAR K&N Pro East Series, where he’s already gotten a win in his rookie season in MDM’s No. 40. He’ll race the same number in his ARCA debut, and he’s mighty anxious to take this next step on the racing ladder. “I’m totally excited for this weekend,” he said with his trademark smile. Gateway looks like an awesome track, especially with the repave. I know some of these ARCA drivers are hard to beat, including my teammates, but I’m confident that with the team I’m with I can have a strong run in my debut. It’s the biggest track I will have raced on so far, which is also something I’m looking forward to. I want to thank everyone who has helped me make it possible, including my marketing partners, family, and supporters.”
The PapaNicholas Coffee 150 is scheduled to get underway at 8 pm Central time this Friday evening, June 22. The race will be televised on Fox Sports 2.
