MDM Motorsports ARCA Series racers Sheldon Creed, Zane Smith and Chase Purdy are ready for Monday’s General Tire Grabber 100 Presented By Federated Auto Parts battle on the dirt track at DuQuoin State Fairgrounds in DuQuoin Illinois.
This race has been a tradition since 1983 for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards and is known as the Magic Mile.
The Labor Day special is the second of the two dirt track races
on the ARCA Series schedule each year, and two of the three drivers in MDM’s lineup have previous experience and success on dirt surfaces.
Creed comes into the race with the most dirt track experience out of the three MDM racers. He is also the series championship points leader, with three wins so far this season driving his United Rentals, A.M Ortega, RTL Toyota No. 28 led by crew chief Jeff Stankiewicz. His confidence is high going into the event, especially following his second place finish in the recent Springfield dirt track race.
“I always feel like one of the guys to beat coming into a dirt race. We've been close three times now, and I really want to get this one. We had a really good car at Springfield so we should be up front again this weekend.”
Smith has four wins in the La Paz Margarita Mix, Icon Vehicle Dynamics, Speed Vegas Motorsports Toyota No. 41 team led by crew chief Mardy Lindley so far this season, and currently sits second in the championship standings behind Creed. Smith also has a background racing on the dirt, so he too is excited for this Sunday afternoon’s battle.
“We had a fast car in Springfield, we got to show it early leading until the engine went south. The points are what they are, all we can do is go for broke every week, win as much as we can and see where it all falls.”
Purdy had a fast car at Springfield, so this weekend holds much promise for the driver of the Bama Buggies / Polaris Toyota No. 8.
“I don't think anyone expected us to be as fast as we were at Springfield, so being able to make some noise early was pretty cool. I had a blast so I'm really looking forward to this weekend at DuQuoin.”
The General Tire Grabber 100 is scheduled to take the green at 2 pm Central time this Monday, September 3rd. The race will be televised on MAVtv.
