Full Name: Tyler Matthews
Hometown: Richlands, North Carolina
Matthews, 21, a junior at East Carolina University majoring in construction management, said today that he is a firm believer in dreams coming true.
"Every racer's dream is to have the opportunity to run in one of NASCAR's top series' and it looks like I'm getting my shot; dreams really do come true," said Matthews.
"This couldn't happen without the help and support from a lot of people. My parents have been my biggest fans and supporters throughout my late model career, along with my girlfriend, Kodie. I also have to thank my long-time crew chief and friend, Doug Barefoot. We purchased our very first late model from Doug four years ago, and he's been with us every since. Without the help and encouragement from these people I wouldn't be where I am today and having this opportunity."
Adding to his list of credentials, Matthews was also the 2015 North Carolina State NASCAR Whelan All-American Late Model Series' Rookie of the Year and the series' 2016 State Champion with his home track of East Carolina Motor Speedway. He further dominated the 2016 late model season with a championship at Southern National Motorsports Park.
MDM, based in Mooresville, NC fields entries in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, K&N East Pro Series, and the ARCA Racing Series.
